• Overview of research goals for the project
    1. To support inter-institutional and interdisciplinary teams that address issues of healthcare quality and outcomes, we bring humanists to health sciences, health and medical professionals, and local communities. Our symposium, web presence, and research-related meetings and events explore multiple research questions. Specifically, how do we:

  1. Create infrastructures that support sustainable humanities and health services research?
  2. Incubate ideas for external-grant-supported interdisciplinary research?
  3. Blend humanities-based approaches with empirical methods to conduct health services research?
  4. Connect with continuing medical and clinical education to translate findings in service of those most underserved and marginalized by the U.S. healthcare system?

Research questions correlate with anticipated project outcomes. We will improve collaboration across humanities and health sciences researchers by providing opportunities for team creation, grant writing, and research. Inclusion of undergraduate and graduate student researchers will improve the future climate and infrastructure for interdisciplinary health and medical research with a humanities-centered approach. We will circulate research through academic publications and presentations, a symposium, and web presence—each of which will increase our project’s visibility and improve the potential for our research’s clinical implementation. Finally, we will develop continuing education modules with several foci (e.g. technology, ethics, communication) that will be offered in medical schools and clinical settings.
